SAT

SAT is an American College MCQ based, pencil-and-paper entrance test accepted to make admissions decisions. 

College Board is the administering organisation of SAT worldwide. 

The intent of the SAT test is to measure readiness for college of the high school student, and provide colleges a standardised test that is used to screen all applications. College admission teams will review the test scores alongside the CGPA, the majors taken in high school, recommendation letters, extracurricular and co-curricular activities, admissions interviews, and profile and statement of purpose.

SAT Test Format

Most high school students take SAT during their final or pre-final year of their school education. The College Board recommends the aspirants to take enough time for their first attempt so in case if they need to raise their score before applying to college, they can re-take the test. 

The upcoming SAT test dates would be tentatively in the months of August, October, November, December, March, May and June

The sections in SAT are:  

  • Math – having two sub sections – a) Math section with calculator having 20 question with 25 minutes time limit and b) Math section without calculator having 38 questions with 55 minutes time limit.
  • Evidence-Based Reading and Writing – It has 2 sub sections. a) Reading test with 52 question with 65 mins time limit and b) Writing and Language test with 44 questions done with 35 minutes time limit.
  • Essay – an optional section that can be chosen at the time of registering the test.  It has only 1 question to be done within 50 minutes.

Essay score is reported separately from other sections test scores. Applicants have to confirm from each college’s admissions policies on the school websites whether to take the essay part or not.

The SAT is a 180 minutes long test. If one chooses to take the SAT with Essay, the test will be for 50 minutes more.

Each section is scored between 200 and 800 point scale. The total SAT score would be the sum of both sections score. The maximum score is 1600. If one takes the Essay, the test taker will receive a separate score card for the same.

How do I register for the SAT?

The deadlines for registering the test will fall approximately five weeks before booked test date.

The  College Board might require SAT registration through mail under special circumstances.
