Universities get to deal independently with academic matters regarding the curricula, methods and teaching strategies. In order to get admitted in a Canadian tertiary education institution there are requirements, depending on the field of studies, programs and other relevant factors which students will have to meet, whether it is an undergraduate or a postgraduate program. 

The two essential criteria are however, high school grades/performance as well as language skills be it English (in most of the provinces) or French in francophone ones. Other requirements are 16 years of education for Masters with atleast 7.5 cgpa having less than 10 backlogs. For MBA, 16 years of education with atleast 2 years of experience in related domain is considered as eligibility. Commonly, Master degrees last for a whole academic year including an obligatory internship added to the overall duration. Sometimes a Master degree can last for two academic years, depending on the curricula and the sensitivity of the program.

PhD degree programs are commonly two to three years in duration. They are separately funded and considered as a job position in most cases. Some Universities will give full scholarships for PhD programs. You need to check with the respective departments of the universities.

The documents required to send to Canadian Universities are:

  • School-leaving certificate,  for a Bachelor course

  • Any other necessary relevant certificates of merit

Processing times vary. It depends on the type of application you submit, and where it is processed. Currently there is a 3-4 months waiting period for a student visa to be issued. 

Accommodation varies depending on the region you will be living in Canada as well as the type of accommodation you choose to go with. However, a approx estimate would be $7500 – $14 500 per year depending on the province.

The PGWP is valid for a period equivalent to the program of study you completed in Canada. Its duration can range from a minimum of 8 months to a maximum of 3 years.

The Student Direct Stream (SDS) is a program that expedites the processing of study permits for candidates who meet eligibility requirements. One of the eligibility requirements is you must be a legal resident of one of the following countries:

To study in Canada, you must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Even though there is no age limit, you need a study permit if you are a minor. Though the age limit varies with the province. You must be a Canadian or foreign youth of age between 18 to 35 for best chance to get study visa.
